Frances Hoeve

November 15, 1923 — September 8, 2016

MADISON, WI - Frances Ver Hoeve (Wright) passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born on November 15, 1923 in Passaic, NJ to Nelson and Doris (Robertshaw) Wright. She began her career as a nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City after WWII, where she was promoted to Head Nurse on the neurological ward.
Frances and Wallace were married on October 4, 1947 in New Jersey and moved to Lincoln Park, NJ where they began their family and resided for 45 years. After raising her boys, Frances returned to nursing, working at Chilton Hospital in Pompton Plains, NJ for over 15 years. She was an active parishioner at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lincoln Park, NJ where she served on the Vestry and received a lifetime service award.
Her husband, Wallace, passed away in 1989, and in the late 90's, Frances moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family and to begin a new chapter in her life. She resided in Madison for 19 years where she became an active member at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, and enjoyed participating in the book club and other activities.
Frances had a passion for reading and writing. When she arrived in Madison, she joined a very special Reminiscent Writing Group, where she got to know a wonderful group of friends and fellow writers. In addition to her love of literature, Frances also enjoyed water aerobics and theatre.
Frances is survived by her sons and their families: James (Mary Roach) of Madison and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Thomas; Mark (Janice) of Denver, CO and grandchildren, Emily Bowden and Sarah; and Charles of Madison. She is survived by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, and her brother, John.
Frances was a spunky "Jersey girl," and always proud to be from the state of New Jersey. She will truly be missed by all those who knew her and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6205 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful nurses and staff at Oakwood Village West and also the staff of Heartland Hospice for their generous care and compassion.
