Middleton-Frances Josephine (Mueller) Gunderson, age 95, passed away at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg on May 3, 2012.

Frances Gunderson was born December 16, 1916, in Everett, Washington, the daughter of Ben and Agnes (Hebert) Gunderson and the eldest of three children. She grew up in Sedro Woolley, Washington.

After graduating from high school, Frances attended and graduated from the Washington State Teachers College and taught at the Moclips Indian Reservation in Washington. She met and married Glenn Gunderson and the two moved to the Chicago area in 1945 where they raised three children. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage.

Frances enjoyed many passions in her life, especially designing and sewing beautifully handcrafted clothing and quilts and playing bridge. She was an avid reader of the Chicago Tribune, and loved Chicago baseball and poems. She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Deerfield, IL and lived a strong Christian life.
She will be remembered by her family and friends as strong-willed and fiercely independent, and a loyal and compassionate friend. Frances was devoted to her family and enjoyed the company of everyone she met.

Frances is survived by her son, David (Pat) Gunderson of Madison, Wisconsin; her daughter, Sharon (Eric) Ryback of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gunderson of Chelsea, Michigan; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is further survived by a sister-in-law in Arlington, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, in 2002, her eldest son, Brian Gunderson in 2006, and twin brothers, Ray and Roy Mueller.

The Gunderson family would like to thank the staff of Attic Angels Place and Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care given to Frances during her years at Attic Angel Place and her final days at Hospice.
