MADISON-Floyd Oscar Ritchie, age 89, went to be with the Lord on the early hours of Thursday, February 23, 2017. He passed away peacefully, allowing his family to be present at the opening of the gates of heaven to greet him. He had been fighting a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Floyd was born on March 15, 1927 (one of 9 children) to Alfred and Lucy Ritchie, in Crawford County. He went to school in Haney Ridge, and then worked on his uncle's farm until he was 23, while also working for the Crawford County Farm Bureau. He was drafted into the Army and served in the 9th Infantry Regiment. He then served in the National Guard for 10 years, before his discharge as a Master Sargent.
He married Ruby Roth in a double wedding ceremony with her sister. They were married for 63 years before her death in 2013. After moving to Madison, he went to work for the University of Wisconsin Agriculture Poultry Department, and then for the Dane County Parks Department, which he retired from. He enjoyed camping, traveling, playing cards, and gardening.
Floyd is survived by his 3 children, Diane (Jerry) Schutz of Waunakee, Robin (Paul) Wipperfurth of Poynette, and Kevin (Sheroll) Ritchie of Wheaton, IL. Floyd had 7 grandchildren, Talia and Blake Schutz, Renee (Jon) Kotek, Vic (Kaia) Wipperfurth, Derek (Stephanie) Wipperfurth, Faith (James) Waterman, and Connor Ritchie. He is also survived by his 5 Great-Grandsons, Croix and Dax Wipperfurth, Owen and Wyatt Wipperfurth, and Frank Kotek. He is further survived by a sister Eileen Kuehni, and brothers Virgil and Lavon Ritchie. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruby, his parents, brothers James, Alvin, Royal, Ronald, and sister Iliff.
Floyd's family would like to thank Dr. Alexis Eastman for her years of care of our dad, to Melanie Brooks and Allison Bacon from Agrace Hospice Care for their excellent care of our dad and for giving him the ability to pass to his next life pain-free and with dignity.
A celebration of Floyd's life will be held on Sunday March 5, 2017 at the Cress Funeral Home on 6021 University Ave. Middleton WI. A visitation will be from 12:30-2:00, with a service following at 2:00. Pastor Chris Dolson will be presiding. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agrace Hospice Care, or to the Waunakee Manor. Please share your memories.
