Madison - Florence Danielson "Danny" Dunning, was born in 1924 and passed away peacefully among family September 26, 2012 in Madison, Wis. Her warm spirit and gentle manner enriched the lives of her family as well as countless friends. Danny was an accomplished teacher, avid reader, superb cook, gracious host, animal lover and enthusiastic traveler. She loved the out of doors and delighted in plants and wildlife. Danny was a devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend. She was born in Ottawa, Ill. Danny attended Monmouth College and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She taught school in Minnesota and Michigan, before returning to the University of Minnesota for graduate studies. There she met and became engaged to Arthur Stephenson Dunning, Jr. They wed on September 2, 1950. They lived in California, New Mexico and Florida as her husband pursued graduate studies, fellowships and teaching assignments before moving on to faculty appointments at Duke and Northwestern. In 1964 they moved to Ann Arbor, Mich. She lived in Ann Arbor for over forty years, becoming an active member of the university community and civic organizations. Danny worked for Youth for Understanding and the Harris Lax law firm in Ann Arbor. Following her husband's death, she relocated to Madison, WI in 2006 to be near family. Danny is preceded in death by her parents, Aden and Marion Danielson, her brother Edward Danielson and her husband A. S. Dunning, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Vogel and Marion Peace; her children Elizabeth, Julia, Sarah and Steven; and grandchildren Alexander, Mara and Olivia. Danny lives on in the hearts of her family and her expansive circle of friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to her beloved Nichols Arboretum:
