Madison - Fern Marty Zweifel passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on the Donald Farm near Mt. Vernon, WI on May 16, 1918 to Malena (Lee) and Mathias Marty. Later the family moved to the New Glarus and Belleville area. Fern graduated from Belleville High School in 1936. On June 23, 1940 she married Alvin Zweifel of New Glarus. They resided in Madison. Fern worked at Gimbels for 17 years before retiring. She was a den mother for cub scouts for many years. Belonged to the Madison Gem & Mineral Club. She and her husband enjoyed the club for many years. Also, they went on many fishing outings together and lots of traveling. Hobbies were making quilts for all her children and grandchildren. Also, she and her husband enjoyed gardening together which she kept on doing after his passing. Fern was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Proceeded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents; sisters, Virginia "Gin" Heimann, Verda "Babe" Lovelace; brother, Lincoln "Bud" Marty. Survivors include three sons, Ronald (Raya) Zweifel of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Richard (Shirley) Zweifel of Madison, WI, Marty (Tanya) Zweifel of Stoughton; one sister-in-law, Mary Wealti; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Friday, October 19, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
