Everett Pohlman

Everett E. Pete Pohlman passed away on April 30, 2017. He was born on May 28, 1929 to Charles and Nellie Pohlman in Bristol, Wisconsin. He graduated from UW- Madison with a degree in business. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. Pete was in the Air Force for two years following graduation. He then began a career, with Ray- O- Vac, first in the Research and Development department and then in Personnel. He also was a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard for 31 years. During this time, he attended the rank of colonel. He also received a Master's degree in guidance and counseling from Troy State University.
Pete met Dorothy Retschler in Sociology class at the UW. They married on September 19, 1953. Together for 63 years, they both loved to travel. In the beginning, it was traveling with the family. In retirement, they were able to discover many parts of the United States and almost all of the continents. Photography was a favorite hobby so all their adventures were well documented.
After a successful career with Ray- O- Vac, Pete and Dottie moved to Door County. They owned a photography shop managed Liberty Park Lodge in Sister Bay and just had fun. Pete could often be found socializing on the golf course, meeting the Governor at Wilson's (a favorite ice cream store) and taking his grandchildren on adventures in Peninsula State Park. He was a kind and generous man. People were important to him and he could be found talking to friends and stranger's a like. He always saw the good in people. He was a life long Cubs fan and he lived long enough to see his beloved Cubbies win the World Series. He was definitely hoping for a repeat this year.
Survivors include his wife; Dottie and his daughters Linda (Tom) Morrison and Diane Ziolkowski. His grandchildren; Mandi (Jeremy) Buehl, Cassie Morrison, Derek (Channing) Alden, Neil Ziolkowski, Grant Ziolokowski (Claire DeBoer), and Reid Ziolokowski. He had four great grandchildren; Thomas and Margaret Buehl, Will and Louisa Alden. He is also survived by his sister in law Jane Rohr and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and his son Peter.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with military honors at 2:30 pm.
