Everett Hamre

July 15, 1934 — February 27, 2016

Waunakee- Everett C. Hamre, age 81, passed away at his home in Waunakee on Saturday, February 27, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born July 15, 1934, in Leeds, WI, to Ervin and Myrtle (Hanson) Hamre. Everett was a proud veteran, who enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War; he served in Vietnam, retiring in 1973 after 21 proud years of service. On August, 4, 1956, Everett married the love of his life, Judy L. Williamson. The Hamre family moved along with Everett's military career, living on several Air Force Bases, before settling in Waunakee in 1974; where he worked for the Waunakee Schools, and then the Dane County Regional Airport.
He was a member of the Air Force Retired Sargent's Association, the Retired Enlisted Association, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Everett also greatly enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that came to visit the feeders outside the home he and Judy shared.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; daughters, Lori (Greg) Roberts of Waunakee, and Kelly (Bruce) Volden of Poynette; grandchildren, Alyssa (Chris) Burleson of Longview TX, Brian (Special Friend- Jen) Hamre and Kaylie Roberts of Waunakee, Justin (Kori Schroeder) Volden of Sun Prairie, Matthew (Ellie) Volden of Appleton, Christopher Volden of Poynette, and Becca Volden of Madison; great-grandchildren, Rylee Johnson, Gwynn Burleson, Evan Hamre, Micah and Quinley Schroeder, Axel, and Christopher Volden; sister, Laurel (Jon) Herwig; brothers, Richard (Jan) and Sanford (Louise) Hamre, sister-in-law, Jackie Hamre; brother-in-law, Joe Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathy and Karen; and brothers, Ronald and Carlton.
A celebration of Everett's life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with Military Honors at 1:30, at the Waunakee American Legion Hall, 417 E Main St, Waunakee, WI 53597. Memorials may be made to Home Health United Hospice, or to the Badger Honor Flight.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his "Little Nurse" Kaylie, who took exceptional care of him; and to Home Health United Hospice.
