Evelyn M. Deneen

December 18, 1918 — September 20, 2008

STOUGHTON -- Evelyn M. Deneen, age 89, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008 surrounded by family.  Evelyn was born on December 18, 1918, in Arena Township, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Parrell) Stoll.  Evelyn attended Halfway Prairie School and graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1935.  She married Bernard J. Deneen at St. Barnabus Church in Mazomanie on June 12, 1937.  He preceded her in death on November 7, 1992.  Evelyn was well known for her green thumb, as an accomplished seamstress, and for her beautiful handwork.  She was active in her church and community serving in varies capacities with Cub Scouts, Parent-Teacher Association, St. Ann Adult Education, St. Ann Guild, Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and Jefferson Deanery.  Evelyn attended Madison Business College in 1966.  She worked for the Highway Commission, the Wisconsin State Historical Society, and the UW-School of Pharmacy before retiring in 1983.  Survivors include her children, Patricia (Ron) Ehle and John (Sue) of Stoughton, Tim (Kathy) of Marshall, and Kathleen (Tom) Cantwell of Waunakee.  A daughter-in-law, Carol Deneen of Stoughton and son-in-law, Marvin Hareid of Edgerton; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gay Glewen of Waukesha, and Arlene (Reuben) Behling of Hubertus; sisters-in-law, Mildred Deneen of Madison and Rosemary Deneen of Mazomanie; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Grace; husband, Bernard; son, Vincent and daughter, Roberta; granddaughter Loni; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:00 at ST. ANN CHURCH, 323 N Van Buren St., Stoughton, with Monsignor Gerald Healy officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or American Heart Association.  The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the staff at Nazareth House for their loving care and support over the years.
