Madison- Euna Staniforth passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at home. Euna was born on: April 16, 1927 in Cote, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Eunice and Earl MacDonald. Euna graduated high school in Lashburn, Saskatchewan. Sydney Staniforth won her heart and they married on May 1, 1946.
Euna first worked as a secretary and in retail, in Canada. She moved with Syd to Ames, IA, before settling in Madison in 1951. Euna stayed home to raise her children. In later years, she was a school lunch aide. She was a member of the Daughters of Demeter, at the University of Wisconsin. Euna offered her creative talents to help friends and family with philanthropic activities. A proud left-hander, she learned to be ambidextrous at an early age. She was an enthusiastic and gifted artist, crafter, knitter and sewer. The last 19 years Euna and niece, Margy Denning of Naperville, IL, traveled to Beaver Dam for the sewing expo. Euna also made beautiful silver jewelry, enjoyed gardening, word puzzles, current events and a good joke. Euna faithfully corresponded with e-mail and cards from her computer. Mondays were reserved for friends at Lechayim. Her neighbors and bridge club friends were also exceptionally dear. A 21-year cancer survivor, she relished living in her home to the end.
Euna's beloved family was her pride and joy. Survivors include son, Donald (Anne) Staniforth of DeForest, daughter, Susan (Dan) Bird of Beaver Dam, grandchildren, Elizabeth Staniforth-Seamster (Daniel Seamster), Margaret Staniforth, Tony (Holly) Bird and great-grandchildren, Clara Seamster, Matthew Seamster and Nora Bird. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Keith (Ruby) MacDonald of British Columbia, sister-in-law, Eleanor MacDonald of Manitoba and numerous dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Professor Sydney Staniforth, her parents and siblings, Earla Staniforth, Dr. Kenneth MacDonald, and Margaret Mawhinney.
Visitation will be 3:00-4:30 p.m., Saturday, 8/12/17, with a family remembrance time after at the Cress Funeral and Cremation Service, 6021 University Avenue, Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "JSS-Lechayim" at Temple Beth El, Madison, WI or the American Cancer Society.
