Schroeder, Eugene "Pete"

A loving father and husband, Eugene "Pete" Schroeder passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 64 years old.
Pete was born April 10th, 1952, in Mauston, WI, to Eugene Peterson and Donnis Schenkat. The eldest child, Pete grew up in Wonewoc, WI, where he lettered in basketball, football and golf before graduating from Mauston High School in 1970. Pete was proud of his service in the United States Coast Guard, which he joined in 1971. He served as a Damage Control Man, 2nd Class at U.S. Coast Guard Group Milwaukee and received a special commendation for leading a crew in building a tower on Poverty Island in Lake Michigan, which still stands today. He was honorably discharged in December 1974, with the rank of Petty Officer, 2nd Class.
Pete married Kathleen Hutchison on December 23rd, 1972. They had two children, Kelly Jo, in November 1975, and Peter Ryan, in March 1978. The consummate salesman, Pete had a sales career spanning 35 years, and later in life owned his own real estate brokerage, Pistol Pete Realty, in Prior Lake, MN.
On May 30, 1987, Pete married Marcia Gunderson at the top of the IDS Tower in downtown Minneapolis. They spent 29 wonderful years together, making their home in Prior Lake, MN, Keowee Key, SC and most recently Madison, WI. Pete was outgoing and gregarious--an impeccable match with Marcia--and the two could often be found out on the dance floor dancing to their favorite songs.
An avid golfer from an early age, Pete's love of the game never dwindled. He played in the Minnesota State Amateur and Open tournaments multiple times, won several club championships, and has nine hole--in--ones to his credit. He played the best and toughest courses all across the U.S., and fulfilled a lifelong dream to play in Scotland in celebration of his 60th birthday.
Pete is survived by his wife, Marcia Schroeder of Madison; daughter Kelly Mlsna (Jason) of Madison; Peter Schroeder (Holly) of Arlington, VA; two grandchildren (Jacob and Hannah Mlsna); brothers Jeff Schroeder, Stacy Schroeder (Barb), Scott Schroeder (Natalie); sister Tamme Georgeson (Jim); half-- sisters Katherine Holec and Rebecca Byrne; his mother, Donnis; plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, from 1--3 pm, at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705.
In lieu of flowers, cards and memorials can be sent to the family in care of the Cress Center.
