Eugene Michael Bakken

Deerfield – Eugene Michael Bakken passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2026 at the age of 76.

Eugene was born in September of 1949 in Stoughton, WI to parents Orlow Laweranc Bakken and Hazel Celia Bakken (Nordlie).

He graduated from Deerfield High School in 1967. At the age of 19 he was drafted into the Army and served 18 months in Vietnam.

He married Donna Zielinski (Feist) in December of 1969. They had 2 children, Brenda Bakken and Michael Bakken. They divorced and he married his wife of 21 happy years, Peggy Brown Bakken in 2004.

Eugene “Geno” started work at Jones Dairy Farm in 1973 and worked there for 39 years retiring in December 2011.

After retirement he enjoyed camping, traveling, playing cards and just spending time at home with his family. He enjoyed rooting for the Packers, Brewers and the Bucks. He also enjoyed just sitting outside in the sun watching the birds.

He is preceded in death by his parents Orlow and Hazel Bakken; brothers Roger Bakken, Donald Bakken, Jerry Bakken and Rodney Bakken, sister Kenlyn Cusick (Bakken) and step daughters Christina Dolan and Carrie Brown.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Brown Bakken; children Brenda Bakken and Michael Bakken (Holly), stepdaughter Cathy Acker (Jeremy); 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday July 17, 2026 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 201 Bue St. Deerfield. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the service at the funeral home on Friday.

A celebration will follow the burial at The Rail House, 12 S. Industrial Park Rd, Deerfield.
