Esenbahar Gairdner Atis

Esenbahar Gairdner Atis, born on April 10, 1981 in Madison WI, passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2024 in Monticello WI succumbing to mental health issues  with which she had struggled for most of her adult life. She graduated from the New York School of Interior Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2006, having studied at Bogazici University in Istanbul and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She was a 2016 Athena Young Professional Award Nominee in recognition of her success in creating her own private label olive oil business. Esenbahar was a talented equestrian and a formidable tennis player. She loved the out-of-doors and spent many happy hours as a child fishing in Manitowish Waters.  She found happiness in the companionship and  devotion of Peter Heil, and they enjoyied the beauties of the Wisconsin countryside together. She is survived by her loving parents, Husnu Atis and Sarah Moment Atis and by her sister Resmine, brother Ayhan, and many other relatives.

There will be a Visitation Thursday January 25 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home,   3610 Speedway Road, Madison WI 53705.   A memorial gathering will be held at a future date. Donations in Esenbahar’s memory may be made to Journey Crisis Intervention Center or NAMI.
