Madison-Emily Herschleb, age 91, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 1, 2012. Just days before her death, she had a full calendar and had been working on poetry--her passion. Emily was born May 14, 1921 in Cassville, Wisconsin and graduated from Cassville High School. She attended Ripon College in Wisconsin and Cox Business School in Tuscon, Arizona. Emily was Secretary for Catalina Council, Boy Scouts of America in Tuscon, Arizona and later employed by State Department of Public Instruction in Madison, Wisconsin
She married Robert A. Herschleb in 1949 and lived in Sun Prairie for thirty one years where their three children were raised--Steve and Roberta Herschleb and Wenda Mincberg. Emily was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Sun Prairie. She worked alongside Bob in building a log house at Lake Camelot. Bob sawed down the trees from ten acres of woods in Adams County and they enjoyed working on the long project.
After Bob's death in 1980, Emily divided time between Port Charlotte, Florida and Wisconsin. She returned to Madison in 1993 and lived in the Hilldale area until moving into Oakwood in 2003.
Emily was always passionate about nature and proud of growing up in the Cassville area between the hills and Mississippi River. She enjoyed traveling and visited many interesting countries. Emily had happy memories of the years of camping with the Prairie Schooners Camp Club that Bob and she organized.
Lifelong learning was important to her and she was a member of Plato for many years. She did some volunteer work for Salvation Army and also Red Cross both in Florida and Wisconsin.
Last, but not least, she was proud of children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
Emily was preceded in death by parents, Otto and Freda Fahling; one brother, Owin L. Fahling; two sisters, Ruth E. Brake and Gretchen Lindow.
Emily is survived by a son, Steven D. Herschleb; and two daughters, Roberta S. Herschleb and Wenda L. (Bob) Mincberg; plus two grandchildren, Alyssa and David Mincberg.
