Elizabeth Schleicher

Waunakee- Betty Schleicher lived and loved her 89 years of life to the last second, after being extended by 35 years of pacemakers, when her big heart failed on Monday, April 20, 2015.

Born to a faith filled life of hard work on a farm, this depression era girl learned the value of life and even survived polio. Betty found love with her Portage High School sweetheart Wen Schleicher. She worked by his side from Army days, in their gamble store to Schleicher Realty. She was the hardworking woman behind the successful man. Together they raised four children; Guy, Karen (Kent) Turkow, Suzy (Tom) Paulson and Kurt (Cheryl). She remained by Wen's side through his dementia in their beloved converted school house in Seymour, Wis.

She moved back to the Waunakee area 15 years ago where her love of life flourished by being involved with her 4 grandchildren; Kim Turkow, Kory (Kris) Turkow, Gina (Bill) Fitzgibbon and Katie (Matt) Stefanski, and 6 great grandchildren; J.T., Bodie, Marli, Cael, Elle and Gage, friends at the Waunakee Senior Center, Wii bowlers and Red Hatters. She enjoyed sharing her green thumb and artistic talents of painting on eggs, shells and ornaments. This extraordinary woman will be missed by all, but we have learned many life lessons from her; love of family, use your talents, every day is a great day and her strong faith in God and people. She had such a compassion for animals. Betty outlived her siblings but is known as Aunt Betty to her many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church, 701 South Century Ave, Waunakee at 11:00 a.m. where Betty practiced her faith and led by her dear friend Pastor Karen Locken. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday and a meal will be shared by family and friends.
