Betty S. Rodman, age 94 of Madison passed away on Saturday January 19, 2013 at Oakwood Village West in Madison, WI after a brief illness. Betty was born May 18, 1918 in Hinsdale, IL to her parents, Carlton D. Sperry and Marion (Casterline) Sperry. Betty attended both UW-Madison and the University of Colorado in Boulder and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married George Bush Rodman on August 19, 1939 at her summer home in Crabapple Island in Fox Lake, IL. Betty had a passion for gourmet cooking and gardening as well as a deep concern for people. Betty resided in her Orchard Ridge home for over 50 years where she was a member of the Orchard Ridge Garden Club before moving to Oakwood Village-West 7 years ago. Betty and George were active with the University of Wisconsin as George was a professor in the English department and Betty was associated with the Spanish department. They both enjoyed their many friends in their "Over the Hill Ski Group". Betty was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and assisted with the Alter Guild for many years. Betty is survived by her sons; James (Karen) Rodman of Madison and George (Liz) Rodman of South Elgin, IL, her grandchildren; Elizabeth (Steve) Dutcher, George (Berna) Rodman III, Apryl (Jason) Lowe, Donald (Ann) Rodman and Mary Jouett Rodman and as well as great grandchildren; Ian Dutcher, Savannah Dutcher, Jacob Lowe, Myles Lowe, George B. Rodman IV, Clara Rodman and Jack Jouett Rodman. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters; Jeanne Leyda and Margaret Lawrence. A memorial service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. D. Jonathan Greiser presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Village West, Kelly Mahoney, Dr. Bruce Grau, and Dr. Steven Barczi who helped so much in Betty's care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Betty's memory to Oakwood Village-West, Grace Episcopal Church or to the Dane County Humane Society.
