Elizabeth (Betty) Margaret Ripp, age 96, of Waunakee, died peacefully with her daughter by her side on Saturday, August 13, 2016. The former Betty Kuehn was born on the family farm in Springfield, WI on November 4, 1919. She was the 8th of 14 children born to John and Appolonia (Schroeder) Kuehn. Betty married the love of her life, Walter Nicholas Ripp, on November 20, 1941, at St. Martins of Tours Church, Martinsville, WI. After a brief time farming, they made their life together in their "little green house in the valley" and we know they are now reunited on heaven's dance floor. She was an avid knitter and shared her talents by knitting baby hats and Christmas stockings, and crocheting baptismal blankets. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, who loved caring for her family, especially cooking and baking. She was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee and in her younger years served with the Christian Mothers Society. Betty was also a 65-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Walter preceded her in death in 1992 after 51 wonderful years of marriage.
Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Jane Ripp (Hamsa Faal), sisters-in law Betty A. (Peter) Ripp and Rosemary (Art) Kuehn, all of Waunakee. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 4 sisters; Olivia (John) Laufenberg, Lavina (Sam) Fedele, Lucille (Wilbert) Grosse, and Kathleen (George) Statz; 9 brothers; Wilbert (Sybilla), Ray (Etta), Syl (Elizabeth, Martha), Leonard (Herlindis), Walter (Mary), Art (Rosemary), Al (Olga), Laverne (Katie), and Ben (Kay, Mary). Betty was the last survivor of that generation.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 17th, 2016, at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee, with visitation beginning at 9 am. Monsignor James Gunn will officiate. Burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Agrace Hospice for their special care. Although Betty lived to be 96 years old, she left this world too soon for her beloved daughter. "Those whom we love and lose are no longer where they were. They are now wherever we are." -St. John Chrysostom.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Parish, Agrace Hospice, or a favorite
charity.
