Elizabeth Jane Graham Lamb McGinn, age 95, of Madison, WI, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. She was born on April 3, 1928, in Benton, WI, to Joseph Laurence Graham and Ida Calvert. She graduated with a degree in Biology from Cornell College in 1950, and then worked as a laboratory technician at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. In 1955, she married USAF fighter pilot Marvin Harris Lamb, of Cedar Rapids, with whom she had two sons, Andrew and Matthew. They resided on England Air Force Base in Alexandria, LA, until Marvin’s death in 1958. Subsequently, she moved back to Cedar Rapids, and married George Richard McGinn in 1961, with whom she had a daughter, Elizabeth. They moved to Madison in 1970, where she spent the last 53 years of her life. Richard McGinn died in 1987.
Jane was a proud and engaged Madisonian. She described herself as a “stay-at-home mom who never stayed at home,” devoting much of her time to serving at First United Methodist Church, PEO, and the Attic Angels Community, where she resided at the time of her death. She was deeply devoted to her faith, family, and friends, and was well known for her warmth, generosity, and thoughtfulness. She found great delight and solace in the beauty, harmony, and order found in nature and in classical music.
She is survived by her children, Andrew (Ann) McGinn, Matthew (Gina) McGinn, and Elizabeth (William) Towell; grandchildren Ian (Nichole) Towell, Jack (Eliza), Anna, and Tommy McGinn; great grandchildren, JJ, Cole, and Harlow Towell; and by sister-in-law Nancy Lamb Skogsbergh, nephew James (Diana) Skogsbergh, niece Susan (Dan) Hendrick, and their families; and many other relatives in the United States, Canada, England, and Scotland.
A Celebration of Jane’s Life and Resurrection will be held on September 16, at First United Methodist Church, 203 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison, at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch and a reception.
