Elizabeth Henry

Madison- Elizabeth A. "Betty" Henry, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on March 21, 2017. Betty was born on August 27, 1921 in Blue Island, Il, to Earle and Florence (Kough) James. As a child, she moved with her family to a ranch near Calgary, Alberta, in western Canada, where she lived several years. In the early 1930's, the family moved back to Blue Island, after her mother became ill. Betty graduated from Blue Island High School in 1938, and attended secretarial school, working in an office for several years after completing her education. She learned to play the piano at a very young age, and enjoyed playing and listening to all types of music throughout her life. In 1951, Betty married Vincent M. Henry, and they lived in Harvey, IL. where they raised two children, Joan and Michael. In 1973, they moved to Florida, while spending their summers in Ontonagon MI. After Vincent's death in 1981, Betty moved to Madison WI, where she remained for the rest of her life, including the last few years at Madison Pointe Senior Living. During her retirement years, she loved to knit and sew, making clothes for American Girl dolls, as well as hats and scarves. Betty is survived by her daughter, Joan Brooke (partner, Michael), of San Antonio TX, a son, Michael (Katherine) of Edgerton, WI, and a stepson, Dr. James Henry (Hanne) of San Antonio TX. , as well as grandchildren, Melissa Brooke, Christian Henry, Mark Henry, Christoph Henry, and James Henry Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, in 1981; her parents; brother, Donald James; and a sister, Kathryn McCord. A celebration of Betty's life will take place at 2:00 pm. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Madison Pointe Senior Living, 705 Ziegler Rd., Madison, WI.
