Elizabeth Ferguson

MADISON - Elizabeth A. "Liz" Ferguson, age 58, of Madison, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Liz was born on July 15, 1954, in St. Paul, Minn., the beloved daughter of Samuel and Jeanette Ferguson. She attended Madison Public Schools and played violin in the orchestra at West High School. She also played violin in the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra. Liz earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition and a master's degree in industrial engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked as a health systems engineer in Nashville and Cincinnati. Most recently, she was an agribusiness alternative energy consultant and also worked at the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
Liz was an original member of the Village Cohousing Community in Madison where she lived and served as treasurer at the time of her death. Her Village neighbors and friends were extended family who loved her dearly. A painter and potter, Liz enjoyed art and music, nature, and cats.
Survivors include her parents, Samuel and Jeanette Ferguson of Middleton; sister Joan Ferguson (Michael Bersin) of Warrensburg, Mo.; brother Mark (Donna) of Centennial, Colo.; nephews Peter and Bobby, also of Centennial, Colo.; cousin Jane (Rich) Mooradian of Petoskey, Mich.; and cousin Dave (Kirsten) Ferguson of Minneapolis.
Family and friends are invited to begin gathering at 9:30 a.m. before Liz's memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at ST. DUNSTAN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 6205 University Avenue in Madison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dunstan's Arboretum or a favorite charity. The family is grateful for Liz's Village neighbors and friends for their support and generosity, and for the care provided by Agrace HospiceCare.
A wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor, Liz now walks in God's garden.
