Elizabeth Lousie “Betty” (Meinholz) Federer, 74, of Sun Prairie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
Betty was the only daughter of Hubert J and Elizabeth A (Weynand) Meinholz. Her six brother, Chris, Wil, Fred, Charlie, Vinney and Earl all loved and cherished her. She was raised on the family farm in Ashton where she learned her work ethic at a young age.
Betty attended St Peter’s Catholic School and Middleton High School, Graduating in 1969. Betty started her career with the State at Central Wisconsin Colony. Betty served as a public servant for 42 years retiring from the UW Madison Union South in 2013.
Betty and Paul just celebrated their 51st anniversary on June 8th. Paul and Betty met on a blind date arranged by Betty’s cousin, Jean Endres Robinson. And the rest is history!
Betty was an accomplished organist and performed at the Windsor Country Club. Betty interests were so varied and anything she did she put her heart into it. Anyone who knew Betty knew everything she did, had to be accurate, in alphabetical order and color coded. Her cakes were beautiful; her handmade cards were always a treasure to receive. Betty enjoyed making jewelry, especially with her great nieces, Anna Elizabeth and Emma Virginia. Betty loved shopping for jewelry, almost as much as she enjoyed making it, and Black Hills Gold rings were a favorite. Retirement brought much joy to Betty’s life through volunteer work at the Deforest Senior Center and the Sun Prairie Colonial Club. Volunteering extended after Betty passed as an organ donor.
No matter how busy Betty was she made time for her family and friends. Maybe just a short call every couple of weeks checking in on a sick cousin or a handmade card to say “hi”. She kept the family informed of birthdays and anniversaries. Her best friend of over 50 years, Donna Sweeney, had a special place in Betty’s heart. The family would like to thank Donna for always being there for Betty.
Betty is survived by her husband Paul N. Federer; brothers, Christian (Elaine), Frederick (Linda), Charles (Linda), Vince (Virginia), and Earl (Mary Kay). Her brothers-in-law, Larry and William; sister-in-law, Mary Federer. Her godchildren: Trudi Bergerson, Jeffrey Meinholz, and Eric Meinholz; along with her nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded by in death by her parents, Hubert and Elizabeth Meinholz, her in laws, Arnold and Ruby Federer, her brother Wilfred, his wife Kathleen and their son, Steven Michael and brother-in-law Douglas Federer.
Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St Albert the Great Dr, Sun Prairie.
