Elizabeth “Betty” Reed

Elizabeth “Betty” Reed passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024.  She was born November 2, 1933 to John and Adrianna Coates and grew up in Walworth, WI. Betty attended Milton College and graduated in 1955 with a degree in Music Education. She also studied art at Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. Milton College is where she met Jack, her devoted husband of 67 years.  Waunakee was their home for the past 62 years.

Betty had an artist’s eye and a love of nature.  Music and art were always part of her life. She loved discovering new music and enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, and stained glass.  She had a love of learning so her job as a Library Assistant in the Waunakee Schools allowed her to share that love with young students. 

Lake Windsor Golf Course provided many joyful rounds of golf for Betty and Jack over the years. They also enjoyed traveling around to other courses in retirement.  

Betty was an active member of First Presbyterian Church Waunakee, where she sang in the choir and helped with numerous projects.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter, Deb (Jim) Neuman; daughter-in-law, Lauri Reed; grandchildren, Kirsten (Andrew) Short, Kourtney (Ryan) Frick, Joshua (Kylie) Reed, Jacob Neuman; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gladys Rockwell; brother, Charles Coates; and many nieces and nephews.

Sadly, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved son Jay, who passed away on April 1,2023.  

The family asks that any memorials be made to Agrace Hospice Care or First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee.  

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church, 5763 County Road Q, Waunakee, with visitation at the church from 9:30-11:00 am.
