Elinor Runey

Elinor M. Runey, age 86, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on June 18, 1926 to Thurman and Mary (McCann) Grinnell in Madison. Elinor graduated from Central High School in 1944. In high school, she met her high school sweetheart, Russell Runey, and after his service in the military they were united in marriage in 1953 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison. Together they ran Runey's Grocery Store on Madison's east side, and also a Quick Shake on the near west side of Madison. Elinor also worked at the UW Hospital for nearly 30 years. Elinor played on a ball team in her youth, and with the friends on that team, began a card club, and created special friendships that lasted for over 60 years. She also loved to play BINGO, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and her longtime friends Mona and Bev. Elinor is survived by her two daughters, Colleen (Michael) and Sheri; her grandchildren, Tomas, Stacie, Trinity, Brittney, Timothy, Ashley and Sean; was "grandma great" to Wyatt; her son-in-law, Clint Badker; a sister, Ruth Schott; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Timothy; daughter, Peggy; and one brother. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
