Madison/Elm Grove - Elinor Honigsberg passed away Friday, January 19, just a month from her 100th birthday at SMCC with her daughter and son-in-law at bedside. The former Ellie Hausheer was born February 20, 1918 to Ella (Miller) and John Hausheer in Milwaukee, where she was raised by her mother and two aunts, Hattie and Stella Miller, after her father passed away when she was two. She graduated from UW-Madison in 1939 with degrees in Physical Education and Physical Therapy and spent her working life as a Physical Therapist for physically challenged children in the Milwaukee Public Schools. On July 29, 1944 she married Walter Honigsberg and together they personally built their home in Elm Grove, WI where they resided for close to 50 years.
Ellie will be remembered for her tailoring expertise and crafts, especially providing the extended family with Christmas ornaments for years. The deep devotion she had to her Catholic faith was evident in her years of helping at St. Mary's Parish in Elm Grove and at the Milwaukee Catholic Home where she resided for twelve years later in life. Her loving care of her husband, who had severe Alzheimer's Disease until his death in 2000, was inspiring.
She is survived by her daughter, Elinore (Nory) and son-in-law, Paul Koziar; grandsons, Jason (Jennifer) and Scott Koziar; and great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Benjamin, Olivia and Madelyn Koziar as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellie was preceded in death by her husband and her dear sister Joan Elliott and a long list of other relatives and friends.
Per her wish, she will be dressed for a party. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 405 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Friday, January 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Mass. Interment will be at St. Mary's Parish Catholic Cemetery, Elm Grove.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Oakwood Covenant Oaks Memory Care Unit, Agrace Hospice, SMCC, and SSM Health at Home for their loving care of Ellie at the end of her life.
In remembrance, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
