Madison - Eleanor "Ellie" E. (Pomplun) Fix, age 97, died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Agrace.
Eleanor was born on March 4, 1916 to Emil and Ida (Mike) Pomplun in Newton Township, Marquette Co. the sixth of six children. She was baptized by Rev. Plische in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield Township. Instructed and confirmed in Westfield Emmanuel Church on March 1928. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Madison, WI. Ellie attended Rural Banner School until 4th grade when her family moved to Westfield. She attended Westfield Grade School and Westfield High School graduating in 1934. After graduation she enrolled in Eau Claire Business School, graduating in 1935. Ellie worked at Eau Claire Ordinance Plant until 1941 and in 1942 transferred to Kansa City, Missouri to work in the Army Transportation Corp. until 1945. Ellie was united in marriage to Milton H. Fix on Dec. 17, 1942 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Milton was in the 8th Army Air Force and served in England from 1943 and returned home in Sept. 1945. She lived a short time in Chicago, IL and Des Moines, IA before moving to Madison in 1947. Ellie started work in 1952 at Veteran Hospital, as an executive secretary, from 1952 and retired in June. 1976. Ellie is survived by a Very Special Great Grand Niece, Nancy (Kevin) Ziegler and Great Great Grand Nieces, Alissa and Mackenzie Ziegler, Portage, WI; Six nephews, Carroll, Donald, William Jr., Billy, Robert, and Eldon "Boots" Pomplun; three nieces, Judy Wielock, Susan Cawley and Paula Pomplun. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Viola Elliott; four brother; Elmer, Albert, William and Wally Pomplun; One nephew and three nieces, Marilyn Brandt, Eleanor "Mitzie" Ondal, and Nancy Elliott. Ellie loved to travel and took trips to Europe and Travel Shop Bus trips to various casinos in WI, IA, MN, and Las Vegas to play bingo. Special Thanks to her neighbors, Mary Allen, Erica and Andy Taft, Paul and Mary Nast; family friends, Judy and Darrel Fenske, Sandy Johnson, Mary Anderson and Mt. Olive Pastor Jason Zobel and Church Volunteer Duane Neitzel, Travel Shoppe Bus friends and all bus drivers.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at MOUNT OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 110 N Whitney Way at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jason Zobel. A visitation will take place from noon until the service.
