Madison - Eldon C. Komplin "Al" age 84 of Madison, WI passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Capital Lakes Assisted Living with his family by his side. He was born on September 6, 1931 in Mt. Horeb, WI, a son of Melvin and Naomi Collins Komplin. He graduated from Mt. Horeb High School while lettering in three sports. Al was drafted into the U.S Army for the Korean War, serving with the 84th Engineering Construction Battalion that built the Freedom Gate Bridge over the Imjin River.
Following the Army, he worked at Kenneth F. Sullivan Co., while also completing his Cabinet Maker Apprenticeship. On August 31, 1957 he married Phyllis A. Bruns of De Forest. They resided in Madison over 50 years while raising 3 sons.
Al was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed attending his kids and grandkids games. He worked "The Blue Line Club" for UW Hockey and also ushered many Badger Football games. He loved his Badgers, Packers and Brewers.
Al & Phyllis enjoyed their annual winter vacations; "Zor Camel" trips, and his annual Army reunions. He was privileged to be part of the Badger Honor Flight in May 2013.
He was a member of Luther Memorial Church, Barneveld Masonic Lodge, Madison Scottish Rite, Zor Shrine Camel Patrol, VFW 1318 and the Madison Elks Lodge.
Al is survived by his wife of 58 years Phyllis; 3 sons, Gregg (Kim), Mark and Scott; brother, Donald Komplin; sister, Anita Fisher; sister-in-law, Helen Komplin; brother-in-law, Bill (Joyce) Bruns; sister-in-law, Beverly (George) Wheatland; grandchildren, Kyle, Drew and Blake Komplin; step-grandchildren, Jackie, Ryan and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vern and Neil; brother-in-law, Russell Fisher; and sister-in-law, Judie Komplin.
A visitation will be held from 4-7p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00pm on Monday, September 14, 2015 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow.
Memorials can be made in Eldon's name to Luther Memorial Church, Children's Dyslexia Center-Madison or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
