Elaine Singel

Elaine Evelyn Singel, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 11, 1927 in Eau Claire, WI to George and Evelyn (Benrud) Eberhardt. She was the eldest of five children and spent her childhood in Eau Claire where she met the love of her life, Raymond J. Singel. They were married on June 6, 1949 residing in Beaver Dam, Oconomowoc and finally making their permanent home in Madison since 1968.

Elaine devoted her entire life and energy to the care of her family, especially her beloved son Steve. She and Ray nurtured and lovingly encouraged him, celebrating his achievements and exceptional opportunities. She loved flowers, cooking and baking and feeding her backyard wildlife. Her greatest joy however was simply spending time with her family, friends and neighbors. She was the very definition of a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her sons Steven Singel and Mark (Darcey) Singel and daughter Julie (Orin) Schimmel, grandchildren Kenneth (Melissa) Schimmel, Sarah Schimmel, Joshua Schimmel and Laura (fianc�e Matt) Singel and Erin Singel, and great-grandchildren Orin and Eleisha Schimmel.
She is also survived by her sister Joan (Art) Dorn, sisters-in-law Florence Eberhardt , Beverly Eberhardt, and Dorothy Eberhardt, plus many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 1992 and brothers Don, Dick and John Eberhardt.

A reception visitation celebrating Elaine's long life will be held from Noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. with Reverend Scott Sorensen officiating. Private burial will be on Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Special thanks to her caregivers and to her dear neighbors for their unwavering kindness, aid and friendship over the years for which she remained ever appreciative. In turn, and in Elaine's memory, foster peace and kindness in your life and spend time with those you love.
