Edwina Kalkiewicz

Edwina "Lois" Downing Kalkiewicz, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2014. Edwina was born March 30, 1927 in International Falls, Minnesota, daughter of Edwin and Crystal Bell (Pettersen) Powers.

She was united in marriage to Donald L. Downing on June 22, 1946 in Milwaukee. After Donald passed away in 1979, she met and married Leo A. Kalkiewicz on January 6, 1984 in Milwaukee. Edwina worked as a nurse's aide at Deaconess Hospital and Milwaukee County Hospital for the mentally handicapped. Edwina enjoyed crocheting and making many Afghans for her family and dear friends. She also loved reading and was an old time movies buff. In her younger years she spent much of her time active in her church and in the church school her children attended'. Her one real passion in life was traveling and out of all her travels she fell in love with Ireland, visiting there five times with her sister at her side.

She is survived by her children Dennis ( Joanne) Downing, Rebecca( Gordon) Morauske and David Downing; grandchildren Tom ( Debbie) Morauske, Tina ( Craig) Tautges, Joe ( Mandy) Morauske, Nichole ( Dan) Jackson, Jennifer Downing, Jason Downing, Allison ( John) Aschenbach; 13 great- grandchildren and her special friend Charlotte Morauske. Edwina was preceded in death by her husband's Donald and Leo; son Jimmy and sister Marion Dobransky

A memorial service for Edwina will be held 3:00pm, Sunday, March 30, 2014 at The Tree of Life Chapel at Oakwood Village East, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, Wisconsin with Reverend Byron Bunge officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00pm until the time of the service at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
