Edwin Davis

Edwin E. Davis, age 97, died peacefully at his residence, Sienna Crest Assisted Living, in Waunakee on Tues. May 13, 2014. Edwin was born on August 11, 1916 in Valton, WI. He was the son of Lawrence C. and Cora E. (Robinson).

He served in the CCC's and then WWII from March 18, 1941 to Dec. 6, 1945 as a T4 Mess Sergeant, Army Americal and 283rd Artillery in the Pacific and Guadalcanal. On May 19, 2012 his service was honored on a Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

In June 1950 he married Marveline H. Trappe in West Lima, WI and later moved to Madison. He worked many years at Ray-O-Vac, followed by custodial foreman for the State of Wisconsin, retiring in 1981. In retirement he found enjoyment in baking, gardening, camping, fishing, wood working, and reading books on WWII. He was united in marriage to Opal I. Meachum-Degler in August of 1989. They travelled winters to DeQuincy, LA spending much loved time with the Young and Marcantel families and Full Life Assembly of God friends. He lived a long full life blessed with family, faith, love and happiness.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; both spouses; brothers, Elmer, Everett, Ronald and Russell; sisters, Ethel Smothers and Vera Poole; son-in-law, Joseph M. Curtin; step-daughter, Sherry Young and step-son-in-law Kenny Young; and step-daughter, Verna (Jack) Bigelow.

Those surviving Edwin include; his brother, Donald (Sharon) Davis; sister, Evelyn Meachum; children; Gloria (Kurt) Schwebke, Daminga (Mike) Cavill, Michael (A.J.) Davis, and Abdul Aziz (Nadifa)Davis; grandchildren, Mari (Scott) Zimmerman, Todd (Angie) Volkman, Joe Schwebke, Courtney Davis, and Jabril and Kamraan Davis; step-grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Heidi and Daniel(Cathy) Cavill; great-grandchildren, Ariana, Andrew, Emma, Dell, Sunday, and Elijah; step-children, Gary (Gladys) Degler and Jean (Brad) Gordon; 23 step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 County Road Q, Waunakee on Sat. May 17, 2014.at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Peter Bergeson of Bible Baptist Church of Mauston will officiate. Friends may call on Friday May 16, 2014 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Highland Memory Gardens following the services on Sat.
