Edward Gene Smith Jr.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Edward Smith, a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and uncle, on Thursday, December 31, 2024. He was born on October 10, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri. Ed graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and attended University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in Eau Claire. On August 24, 1985 Ed married Holly Kopplin in Beloit. Together they enjoyed spending time outdoors and raising their daughters.

Ed worked for General Motors for over 31 years, at Wingra School for 15 years, and ran deliveries for NAPA. He enjoyed nature and being outside, tending to his yard. Ed loved sports and took pride coaching his daughters in multiple activities. He loved his family and was loved by his family. Ed was a wonderful husband and father, loving brother and uncle, and devoted friend. He loved his co-workers and always being busy. Ed will be missed forever and will always be in our hearts.

Edward leaves behind his wife, Holly Kopplin Smith; daughters, Maggie and Emily Smith; brothers and sisters, Stanley Smith, Mary Spence, Perry Smith, Dell Henning, and Harry Smith; sister-in-law, Cynthia Cruz; and father-in-law, Donald Kopplin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Jean Kent; brother, Billy Smith; and mother-in-law, Billie Kopplin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the Cress Community Room. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service Saturday.
