Martinsville/Cross Plains

Edward J. Hornung, age 79, of Cross Plains, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Attic Angel with his family by his side after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on May 21, 1945, to Joseph and Angeline Hornung. He married Arlene Ripp on April 4, 1970, in Cross Plains and recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Ed grew up on a dairy farm, near what is now TPC Wisconsin - formerly Cherokee Golf Club. He spent countless hours roaming the marshes and fishing in area lakes and streams. He served his country in the Army from 1965 – 1967. Ed spent many years working for Farmers Implement and also Yahara Materials. He loved tinkering around his 15-acre farmette, where over the years he raised a variety of animals. When he was not mowing the lawn on his John Deere mower, he could be found going on gator rides, Culver’s runs, and gopher hunting with his grandchildren. In his retirement, he dedicated much of his time to giving back, volunteering at Agrace Hospice, Way Forward Resources, and Heritage Elementary School, just to name a few.

He is survived by his wife Arlene, son Brian (Julie), daughter Michelle (Kraig) Reynolds and grandchildren Kelsey, Ashley, Zachary, Cole and Hailey. In addition, he is further survived by his siblings Nick (Marilyn) Hornung, Joanne Sellmeyer, Barb (Pat) Fahey, John (Nancy) Hornung, Jane Fahey, Mary Maier, Kathy (Larry) Bladl, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Angeline Hornung, Arlene’s parents Bernard and Isabelle Ripp, brother in laws Donald Kaltenberg, Bill Sellmeyer and Paul Fahey.
