Died on June 8, 2018. He was born on July 16, 1932 Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Lovick) and the late Alice (nee Gray). Ed is survived by his sons, Howard (Doreen) and William (Kathy), and daughter Carla (Tory) Thoftne; stepdaughters Patricia Bostad, Nancy (Ken) Kokesh, Connie Bostad, Jacqueline (Daniel) Frosch, and Karen (James) Doering; 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He is further preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Etta Mae Hamre, and brother Steven Hamre.
Ed was licensed to practice Mortuary Science and took over the family business, Hamre Funeral Home, in Lodi WI until his retirement. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He also dedicated a number of years as a Columbia County Board member, including two years as a County Executive. Ed and Dorothy enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally, spending time with friends and family (especially his grandchildren), and he was an avid model train hobbyist. Ed always had a good story to share and an incredible skill for fixing anything with whatever resources he had around him.
Funeral services will be held on Wed. June 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 300 Broadway Dr., Sun Prairie, WI. Rev Charlie Brandt and Rev. Steve Vera will preside. Friends may call at the church on Wed. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Madison.
