Edith Jean Meerdink, age 86, passed away Friday May 3, 2013 after a long illness.
She was born in Sheboygan to Jess and Florence Meerdink. When she was five years old they moved to Oshkosh where she graduated from Oshkosh High School with Highest Honors. She then worked in an Oshkosh bank as a teller and secretary in its trust department. In Madison, she worked at UW-Madison, for 15 months on the Agricultural Campus and then as an Administrative Assistant in the L&S Associate Dean's Office of Student Academic Affairs, retiring in 1989. At retirement she was recognized for her dedicated service by being named to the Dean's Club.
Edith love traveling and enjoyed trips to the Caribbean Islands, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada and extensively in the United States. Closer to home her favorite spot was Lake Michigan at Sheboygan. In retirement, she volunteered for the State Historical Museum and the Madison Literacy Council. She like reading, history, crossword puzzles, music and nature. She was an avid folk dancer and always looked forward to the dancing, potlucks and fellowship.
She was a member of the First Unitarian Society.
She is survived by a brother, Don; a sister, Donna; a cousin, Richard Meerdink and other cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
The family thanks Don and Joan Schuette, John and Jean Tews, and Karen Rose Gredler for their help, care and support. Thanks also to the 3rd floor staff of the Capital Lakes Health Care Center for their excellent care and kindness.
