Eberhard Schubert

Eberhard Karl Wolfgang Schubert, age 71, of McFarland/Blanchardville Wi., died unexpectedly at SSM St. Mary’s ER on 6/30/22. Born 6/13/1951 in Esperke, West Germany, Eb met his wife Jan while she was an exchange student from America. They married on 10/2/1971 and lived in West Berlin for 3 years before Eb immigrated to the US in 1974. He became a naturalized citizen in 1987. While a young man he apprenticed as a meat cutter. Upon moving to the US he obtained his G.E.D., graduated the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, then completed a Masters Degree in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Illinois. He moved his family to McFarland to work as an analyst for the Legislative Audit Bureau of Wisconsin before taking an administrative position in Space Management for the University of Wisconsin. He retired from U.W. in 2006 to become Director of Space Management for the University of N. Carolina, Greensboro before retiring to his Wisconsin farm in 2010.

Eb is survived by his wife of 51 years Jan (Basom) Schubert, and 2 sons, Barton and Dietrich Schubert, Daughter-in-law Katie (Duckwitz) Schubert, grandson Patrick. Also, brother and sister in law Bruce and Diane Basom of Michigan, nephews Daniel and Christopher Basom and their families. In Germany, his sister Ulrike (Schubert) Bielefelt and husband  Helgo, niece Janina and nephew Christoph and their families. Eb was preceded in death by an infant Daughter, Christine Lorraine Schubert.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm (noon) on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Cress Funeral Service MCFARLAND with a celebration of life to follow.   There will also be an additional gathering from 2-5:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Argyle Rod and Gun Club, W9408 State HWY 81, Argyle, Wi. 53504.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donation be made to Sugar River Valley Pheasants Forever of Argyle, WI (donations to be mailed to W9408 WI-81, Argyle, WI 53504).
