He attended schools in Windom and Mobile, Alabama before graduating from high school in Oregon, Wisconsin in 1946. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in zoology, then served as a second lieutenant with the Marine Corps' 8th Tank Battalion. He graduated from the UW medical school in 1957 and interned at Madison General Hospital before embarking on a four-year residency in Ob-Gyn at UW Hospitals. Ron was in private practice for 13 years before joining the UW medical faculty, specializing in maternal-fetal medicine. Reluctantly, he retired in 1991 due to failing health.
Ron married Wilma Eugster, of Oregon, Wisconsin on June 1, 1951. They had four children: Barb (Jamal Kharbush), Deb (Lee Perez), Rich (Emerie Franks) and Bill, and seven wonderful grandchildren: Gabrielle and Raquel Perez, Jenan, Rima and Samir Kharbush, Marisa and Shauna Olson, who loved their Grandpa dearly. Ron was preceded in death by his daughter, Deb, who died of inflammatory breast cancer in December of 2004.
The family wishes to thank the staffs and care teams at Meriter Hospital, Oakwood Village and Agrace HospiceCare for their dedicated and compassionate care.
