Lake Wales FL. - Phillip John Schoenbeck (92) of Lake Wales, FL, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Stoughton Hospital. He was born January 22, 1932, in Stoughton, WI, the son of Dr. Robert Franklin and Gladys Tholo Schoenbeck.
Phill attended Stoughton High School, graduating in 1950 where he was an accomplished athlete, competing in golf, football, basketball, and track & field and held the state record in pole vaulting.
Phill then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where earned his medical degree. Phill completed his residency in general surgery in Colorado Springs and New Orleans, Phill joined his father in medical practice in Stoughton in 1960. Phill would remain Stoughton’s general surgeon for nearly three decades and would later finish his career in McCook, Nebraska in 1997.
Throughout college and his career, Phill was an avid golfer, competing for the University of Wisconsin golf team and awarded All Big Ten honors. At Stoughton Country Club, you will see Phill’s name on the Club Champion board many times.
In retirement, he spent winter months at his home in Lake Wales, FL and summers at Lake Vermillion in Cook, MN. Here he relished time with his family, his dogs and nature enjoying fishing, playing euchre or tinkering in his tool shed. This was his happiest place on earth.
Phill leaves behind his life partner, Carol Schoenbeck (Stoughton, WI). His 3 children, Lorilee Schoenbeck and partner, Bryan Osborne (Essex Junction, VT), Jodie Schmidt and husband John (Oregon, WI,) John Schoenbeck and wife Sandy (Milton, GA) and grandchild, Danielle Schmidt (Madison, WI).
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Gladys Schoenbeck. His brothers, Frank Schoenbeck and Robert & Phyllis Schoenbeck.
Visitation is Friday, March 8, 2024, from 10:00 am-11:00 am with a prayer service following at 11am at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect St., Stoughton A private burial will be held for the family at a later time.
The family welcomes all those who have been touched by his life and legacy to join in this day of remembrance.
