Madison - Dr. Larry Howlett Hogan, aged 91, died peacefully March 13, 2012 following a brief illness. He was born July 28, 1920 in Green Bay, the son of Florence and Lewis Hogan. After earning a Bachelor's of Science degree and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he joined the Army Medical Corp, serving stateside for two years, and as a major in the Army Reserve thereafter. Upon completion of postgraduate education in Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, he and two partners organized Madison's first private anesthesia group practice at St. Mary's Hospital and at Madison General (Meriter) Hospital. Over 36 years of anesthesia care, he garnered a reputation as a skilled, compassionate physician and steadfast colleague. To Mary Lou (nee McCarty), his wife of 63 years, he brought charm, unwavering companionship, and eclectic joie de vivre. He enriched the lives of his children Laurel, Kirk (Paula), and Quinn (Paula), and is additionally survived by 7 grandchildren, 2 grand daughters-in-law, and a great-grandson. A memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 28 at Attic Angel Place community room, 8301 Old Sauk Rd, Madison 53562.
