Douglas William Hansen, 54, passed away unexpectedly from medical concerns on June 5, 2026, leaving behind a family, circle of friends, and community who were blessed by his larger-than-life personality, generous spirit, unwavering loyalty, and boundless love.
Doug was born on December 19, 1971, in West Allis, Wisconsin, to Kenneth and Phyllis Hansen. Growing up, he developed many of the passions that would remain with him throughout his life—faith, family, photography, music, motorcycles, sports, adventure, and an appreciation for the simple joys that make life meaningful.
Doug attended UW-Stout for Graphics Arts Management and while there won awards for his screen printing designs. After college he worked for Color Arts in Racine Wisconsin until he completely embraced his role as Dad.
He had a creative eye and a gift for turning ordinary things into something special. Whether customizing motorcycles, designing shirts, taking photographs, restoring vehicles, or creating memories with family and friends, Doug approached everything with enthusiasm and imagination.
The greatest love of Doug’s life was his wife, Leslie. Together they shared 37 years by each other’s side in friendship, marriage, adventure, laughter, and unconditional love. Doug never missed an opportunity to tell Leslie how much he loved her, how beautiful she was, and how grateful he was to have her in his life. His love was expressed not only through words, but through countless acts of kindness—making her coffee and lunch every morning, warming up her car before work, supporting her career, and always being her biggest cheerleader. He was her protector, comforter, partner, and best friend.
Doug’s proudest role was being a father. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to Ashley, Calla, and Zack. He stayed home to raise and support their children, coached youth sports, attended every school program and athletic event, documented their lives through thousands of photos and videos, and made even ordinary days feel special. Whether it was golfing together, skiing out west, teaching life lessons, helping with cars, or simply showing up whenever they needed him, Doug’s children knew they were deeply loved.
He was incredibly proud of the adults his children had become and often spoke of how fortunate he felt to have such kind, talented, hardworking, and compassionate children. He welcomed their partners, Trent Maas, Micah Schubring, and McKenna Michel, into the family with the same warmth and enthusiasm that he extended to everyone he cared about.
One of Doug’s greatest joys in recent months was the anticipation of becoming a grandfather. He was excitedly counting down the days until the arrival of his first grandson this August and looked forward to sharing his love of adventure, family traditions, and life lessons with future generations.
Doug had a remarkable ability to find joy in life. He loved motorcycles, classic cars, snowboarding, golf, photography, concerts, camping in Door County, campfires under the stars, road trips, pizza, hot sauce, ice cream, and music of every genre. He loved gathering people together and was often described as “the host with the most.” Whether around a campfire, at a neighborhood gathering, by the pool, or at a barn party, Doug made people feel welcome, included, and appreciated.
He had a special place in his heart for dogs. Over the years he loved and spoiled Boston, Chopper, Guinness, Buddy, and Duke. He believed dogs deserved comfort, treats, adventures, and a place beside the people who loved them. Leslie often joked that being a doggy daycare-bus driver would have been Doug’s perfect retirement job.
Faith remained an important part of Doug’s life. He grew up active in church, high school youth group, and campus ministries during college. It was through youth group that he and Leslie really began to notice one another. Throughout his life, Doug wanted his family to know the importance of faith, God’s love, and having Jesus in their lives.
Doug was also deeply patriotic and grateful for those who served their communities and country. He respected military members, veterans, first responders, and law enforcement officers and quietly supported organizations dedicated to helping them. He especially loved service dogs and the incredible difference they could make in the lives of veterans.
Above all else, Doug loved people. He was a loyal friend, devoted husband, proud father, future grandfather, loving son and brother, and the kind of person who could make anyone laugh. Even years between conversations never diminished a friendship. Everyone who knew Doug seems to have a favorite story, a funny memory, or a moment when he showed up exactly when he was needed most.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Leslie Alzuhn-Hansen; his children, Ashley Hansen-Maas and her husband Trent Maas, Calla Hansen and her fiancé Micah Schubring, and Zack Hansen and his girlfriend McKenna Michel; his grandson-to-be, expected in August 2026; his mother, Phyllis Hansen; his brother, Brian Hansen-his wife Kim and their children Lana, Evan, and Chris; his sister, Kimberly Hansen; along with many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Hansen; his grandparents, Norman and Elma Hansen; and Harold and Lois Meads.
Though his time with us was far too short, Doug filled every year with love, laughter, adventure, generosity, and unforgettable memories. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, the countless photographs he captured, and the many lives he touched. Although he will not be here to hold his first grandson, his family finds comfort knowing that the love, values, traditions, and stories he passed on will live on for generations.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doug’s memory to organizations that reflected causes close to his heart and he donated to regularly:
Mighty Oaks- Organization that provides faith based rehab for veterans and first responders.
Tim Tebow Foundation- Organization that fights for the MVP (Most Vulnerable People-Orphan Care, Profound Medical Needs, Special Needs Ministry, and Anti-Human Trafficking).
K9s For Warriors- Organization that saves rescue dogs and trains them to be service dogs for veterans with PTSD. “Saving Lives at Both Ends of the Leash”.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held Saturday August 15, 2026. More details will be given when available.
