Obituary

Douglas “Doug” E. Dummer, age 69, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 4, 2026 after a 10 year battle with prostate cancer. He was born on July 27, 1956 in Beloit, WI to John Edmund, II and Mardella (Wessels) Dummer. He was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School, Class of 1974, and he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy thereafter. Doug went on to marry the love of his life, Karen Squires, in 2007.

By trade, Doug was a journeyman tool-and-die maker, and his most notable job was with the UW Physics Department where he was the Instrument Shop Supervisor for 17 years until his retirement in 2024. When not working, he enjoyed all things outdoors—golfing, hiking, biking, and hunting. Trips to the mountains were his favorite. Doug was also an avid, Packers, Badgers, and Brewers fan!

Doug is survived by his wife Karen Squires; children: Doug (Shawna) of Wisconsin Dells, AJ (Lindsay) of Pardeeville, and Billie (Brent) Hunt of South Wayne; step-children: Jason (Brenna) Squires of Stoughton and Tara (Todd) Dobberfuhl of Sun Prairie; and grandchildren: Dayne, Remy, Noah, Zac, Amelia, Sofia, Luke, Lainey, Lucky, Alle, Nash, Calvin, Josephine, Jamison, and Christian; brothers Jack (Mary) Dummer of Orfordville and Robert Dummer of Beloit; and many other relatives and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Teresa Begolke.

Per his request, no services will be held. Memorials are appreciated to Agrace Hospice Care.

The family wishes to thank the SSM Fish Hatchery oncology staff including Dr. Ryan Porter along with Agrace Hospice for their compassion and guidance while Doug was in their care.

“If love alone could have kept you here, you would have lived forever.”
