Doug Clark

December 19, 1955 — September 14, 2012

Madison - On Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, Doug, age 56, left his body in bed and joined departed family in an afterlife rich with love, music, food, sunsets, trees, and canyons, or their spiritual equivalents.

Doug was born Dec. 19, 1955, in Iowa City, to parents David and Louise Clark. The family moved to Madison's arboretum in 1963. After graduating from West High, he served a mission in Germany for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. While studying at BYU he met and married Karen, a perfect woman whom he loved with the heat of a thousand suns, with whom he would raise four splendid children. He also grew a beard, which maintained intermittent control over his lower-face until the end. Succumbing to a genetic mandate that he become a geologist, Doug earned a degree from Yale then went hunting for hot water in the Mojave Desert. He eventually returned to Madison to attend UW Law School and settle into a career at Foley & Lardner. Throughout his life, he invested his mighty emotions in family and friends. He will be remembered eating with his family, blasting music in his office, riding his motorcycle over wooded hillocks at sunset, and embracing us.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, in the Evjue Commons, 3330 Atwood Avenue, Madison, followed by a visitation until 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please be kind to everyone you encounter, forgive someone who has hurt you, beg forgiveness from someone you have hurt, or hug someone close and tell them you love them.
