Dorothy Smith

MADISON- Dorothy Marie Smith, 96, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, June 21st at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. She was born March 6, 1919, to Frank and Mary Hoehn. She married Robert Smith on February 14, 1942.

Dorothy was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a substitute teacher in the Madison School District for many years. Her love of cats began at an early age. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling the world, and all things Irish. She was a life-long learner who retained her optimism and sense of humor throughout her 96 years.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Brian (Jerre) and Brent (Ellen); her sister-in-law, Ruth; grandchildren Amy (Bob), Jeffrey, Eric, Erin and Anna; and great-grandchildren Parker and Addison.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Hoehn; her husband Robert; and her brother Lloyd.

Dorothy moved to Attic Angel Place in 2000. Our family is especially grateful to all of those at Attic Angel Place who were Dorothy's friends and caregivers. The family would also like to express their thanks to all those at Agrace Hospice who cared for Dorothy in the last two weeks of her life.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Ann Beaty presiding. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's Association, American Macular Degeneration Foundation, or a charity of the donor's choice.
