Dorothy Elaine Scheer passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the age of 98. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy was born on June 20, 1927, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Martha (Radtke) and Henry Becker. She grew up in the Glen Oak Hills neighborhood and graduated from Madison West High School in 1945. On May 17, 1947, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Scheer. Their marriage of 65 years was a union that was cherished and celebrated throughout their lives together.
Dorothy spent many years working as a supervisor at Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Company before retiring in July 1992. Along the way, she also enjoyed working part-time at Canteen Catering, something she found both fun and rewarding.
In her younger days, Dorothy loved playing softball. Later in life, she found enjoyment on the golf course and in her weekly bowling league. She also loved gardening, especially tending to her tomato plants.
What Dorothy cherished most was time spent with family and friends. Her home was always welcoming, as she greeted visitors with a warm smile and comforting hug, coffee and cookies ready, and gatherings often included a lively game of Euchre.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Bill” E. Scheer; her parents; her siblings; and other cherished family members.
She is survived by her six children: William “Billy” (Rachel) Scheer, Donna (Jerry) Marx, Mary Lybeck, John (Katie) Scheer, Deb (Dan) Ellingson, and David (Deborah) Scheer; her sister-in-law, Diane Becker; 15 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thurs. Feb. 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in Roselawn Cemetery.
Dorothy’s legacy is one of love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank Sister Georgeann and the Staff at SSM Hospice.
