Dorothy Gerstenkorn

Waunakee-Dorothy L. Gerstenkorn, age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Karmenta Health Care Center, Madison. She was born on March 11, 1931 in Waunakee, the daughter of Frank & Margaret (Clemens) Hellenbrand. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Waunakee. She graduated from Waunakee High School, Class of 1949, where she was in the band, on the play committee, and wrote for the school paper. Her quote was "My dreams are getting better all the time." She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Madison most recently and before that was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Waunakee. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bingo, cards and gambling. She enjoyed gatherings with family and friends where her talents as a cook were on display. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Denise (Michael) Hinnendael and Marla Eddy, both of Madison; her grandsons, Joseph & Jeffrey Hinnendael; her brothers, Frank Hellenbrand and Robert Hellenbrand, both of Waunakee; her sisters, Theresa Payne, Madison and Janet Beckerjeck, Waunakee; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, David, brother, Bernard, and sisters Margie Hellenbrand and Irene Renz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. A visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be held in the church's cemetery.
