Madison - Dorothy "Dot" Dent, age 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Ingleside Manor in Mt. Horeb. She was born on July 4, 1937 in Superior to Emil R. and Ruth (Bellile) Eiden. Dorothy attended West High School in Madison. She received her B.S. at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and was certified in LD, CD and ED. She dedicated her life to teaching those with learning disabilities, cognitive and emotional disabilities. She worked at many facilities over her working life, including Central Wisconsin Center, Madison Opportunity Center and Oakhill Correctional Center. Dot loved to travel and visited many different countries over the years. She taught in Leeds, England for a year on a Fulbright teacher exchange. Dot was passionate about social causes and participated in protests for various causes. Dot volunteered her time to many organizations, most notably Amnesty International and St. Vincent de Paul. She was very generous in her monetary donations as well. She was very involved in her church, and her Catholic faith was very important to her. She loved spending time with her Queen of Peace community group. Her "Love Languages" were acts of service and quality time spent with loved ones.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Stephen Dent; daughters, Elizabeth (Erik) Bayer and Jennifer (Greg) Vlack; grandchildren, Ashley Vlack, Alexis Vlack, Brooke Bayer, Luke Bayer; sisters, Rosemary (Ed) Schuweiler, Mary (Dave) Styczinski; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael; former husband, Donald Dent; parents, Ruth and Emil Eiden; brother, Stephen Eiden; and brother-in-law, Martin Andrea.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to St. Vincent de Paul or Tellurian Detoxification Center.
