Madison - Dorothy A. Annen, age 87, passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, in Agrace hospice care at Oakwood Village, after courageously confronting numerous health issues.
She was a lifelong resident of Madison, born July 14, 1929 to parents Earl and Ghea Burwell, who along with her brother Donald (Gus) Burwell, preceded her in death.
A proud graduate of Madison Central High School, Class of '47, she attended Madison Business School and was employed by Fish & Schulkamp Insurance Company before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. Annen, a former professional baseball player and career firefighter for both the City (35 years) and Town (19 years) of Madison.
Dorothy was an enthusiastic sports fan who played competitive softball, and followed the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and was fortunate enough to know that her Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series before passing.
She was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, baptized, confirmed and married there, and served as their organist for 40 years.
Her family was her greatest joy and she reveled in her children's and grandchildren's academic, athletic and assorted activities.
