Doris Mita

March 13, 1920 — July 21, 2012

Doris S. Mita, age 92, of Madison, Wisconsin, died on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at a local nursing home.
She was born in Berkeley, California to Harry and Margaret (Matsuda) Hayashi March 13, 1920.
Doris married Roy G. Mita February 12, 1944.
Doris received a BA in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1942;
a M.A. in Religious Education from Scarritt College in Nashville, TN, and an M.S. in Social Work and Counseling from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
She was a member of the League of Women Voters, United Nations Association, American Association of University Women, and the University League.
She was employed by Dane County and the University of Wisconsin. Her latest employment was as an Outreach Worker for the Dane County Commission on Aging.
Doris did volunteer work for the Madison Public Library Homebound and Bethany Homebound programs. She also volunteered at the Methodist Health Center and the Meriter Hospital Hemodialysis Unit.
Doris enjoyed politics, reading, bridge, Scrabble, and socializing with her many friends.
She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for 50 years.
Doris is survived by her son, Ted (Rachel) of California; her daughter, Carol (Mitch) of Massachusetts; her granddaughters, Melissa and Rachel of Florida, and Stephanie of California; her sister, Gladys Oniki of Utah, and her brother, Harold Hayashi of California.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Roy and son, Roy Gerald (Jerry) Mita.
There will be a Memorial Service for Doris on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 1:00 p. m. at BETHANY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3910 Mineral Point Road with Rev. Greg Jewison presiding.
