Doris Elizabeth Meyer (née Pfaff), age 103, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, in Madison, Wisconsin. Born on September 10, 1922, in Philadelphia. She lived a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and service to her family and community.

Doris graduated from Philadelphia Olney High School and began her career at Allstate Insurance. There she met her future husband, Robert Meyer. When World War II began, Bob received his officer commission in the US Navy. Then at the age of 20, Doris embarked on a cross-country train journey from Philadelphia to Seattle to marry Bob while he was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Base. Their marriage marked the beginning of 48 wonderful years together until his passing in 1991.

After Doris spent many years as a homemaker raising their family, she re-entered the workforce in the mid-1960s. She first worked as a clerk at Manchester’s Department Store before serving students in the nurse’s office at Madison West High School. Her warmth and care left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Doris was deeply rooted in her faith and was a long-time member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She devoted herself to church work by teaching Sunday School, participating in ladies' circles, and serving as a deacon. Faith brought her strength throughout her long life.

Doris found joy in flower gardening, needlework, reading historical novels, and caring for the many cats she loved throughout her life. She often said her greatest accomplishments were raising three children and having a long, happy marriage.

Doris is survived by her three children: Lyndon Meyer; John Meyer (Arlene); and Lois Briggs (Richard). She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Kathryn Briggs (Nate), Karen Chitko (Dustin), Ken Meyer, Scott Meyer (Anna), and Sean Meyer (Sarah); as well as seven great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Arabella, Ryan, Aaron, Lilly, Alex, and Nico. 

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her parents Harold and Myrtle Pfaff; her sister Lois Mooney; her daughter-in-law Carol Meyer; her granddaughter Melissa Nelson; her granddaughter-in-law, Angela Meyer; and her many cats.

A memorial service will be held at the Resurrection Chapel at Oakwood Village, 6205 Mineral Point Road, on August 14th at 11:30 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Doris’ honor to Christ Presbyterian Church-Christian Education Department.

Doris’ legacy is one of love, resilience, and devotion to those around her. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
