Doris Schroeder

WAUNAKEE- Doris J. Schroeder, age 84, of Waunakee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, at St Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness.  She was born on Jan 21, 1938 at St Joseph’s Hospital, Dodgeville, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Shirley (Skews) Ley.  She married the love of her life, George H. Schroeder, on May 27, 1967.  They resided in Waunakee where they proudly raised four children.  Doris worked selflessly as a registered nurse for over 30 years at Central Wisconsin Center in Madison where her loving hands touched many lives.  Doris loved family gatherings, traveling with her beloved husband, and spending time with many special friends. Doris fiercely loved her grandchildren and enjoyed and cherished the moments spent with each of them.  She had a number of hobbies including knitting, going to Ho-Chunk, shopping for a bargain at flea markets, painting, and volunteering for numerous organizations and charities.  She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order for over 30 years and also a devoted member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include daughters, Jacquelyn (Chris) Ziegler, Mary (Wally) Hoon, and Theresa (Roger) McMunn; son, John (Angie);  five grandchildren, Jesse and Carly Ziegler, Jacob, Dylan and Logan Hoon; six step-grandchildren, Ryan (Hannah), Hannah (Jack), Ian, Megan, Evan, and Jacob; and three step-great-grandchildren, Graham, Wesley, and Mikayla.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George; her parents; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Sat. Nov 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Sat from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
