Madison - "Dorie", age 85, passed away at home on Thursday, April 26, 2012. She was born in McNutt, Saskatchewan, Canada on June 7, 1926 to parents Mabel "Mae" Baumann and Reverend Walter C. Baumann, who was serving as a missionary in Canada. Her family moved to Shawano, Wisc. when she was a baby. When Dorie was a teen, her family moved to Green Bay. After finishing school, Dorie moved to Madison. Dorie loved to read, write letters, garden, travel, walk, and de-clutter. She was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and writing for the church paper. She frequently visited the home-bound, and in later years used her letter writing gifts to bring them joy. With her compassion and positive attitude, Dorie was always reaching out to those around her, making many friends. She was known for her sense of humor, her many to-do lists, and her endless prayer list. Dorie, and her husband, Gil Harder, were blessed with four children. She is survived by her children, Ann Hogan of Richmond, VA, Diane (Tom Eckstein) of St. Paul, MN, Tim (Julie) of Green Bay, and Mark (Linda Goiffon) of Madison; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two special people, Chris Lillesand and Rita Sager. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1021 Spaight Street, Madison, with Rev. Dustin Krystowiak officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran World Relief, or Agrace HospiceCare.
