Dorathy Fangmeyer age 101 of Waunakee was a remarkable woman to God be the glory! She was loved and will be cherished by those who knew her. She was born on July 26, 1922 in Hebron NE. She was the only daughter of Frerich “Frank” and Margaretha “Margaret” Lucht, and sister to four brothers. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron. Dorathy was an active member of Cross Lutheran Church in Westport, WI.
She married Ernest (Ernie) Fangmeyer on June 3, 1942 in Hebron NE. They had four children, three boys, Arthur “Art”, Ronald “Ron”, Dennis, and one daughter Cynthia. The family moved from Nebraska to Oklahoma, to Illinois, then Indiana and finally to Waunakee, WI in 1966. After this move, Dorathy made it known that this would be Home.
Dorathy enjoyed being involved in the community. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and held several leadership positions including President. She was one of the charter members of Peace Lutheran Church and then a charter member of Cross Lutheran as well. After retiring from the bookkeeping Department of First Wisconsin Bank, she volunteered as the coordinator of the RSVP program through the Senior Center in Waunakee. In recognition of the many years, she called and arranged transportation for Senior citizens, she received the award of Outstanding Volunteer in the community. She enjoyed bowling and received several awards for her bowling both as an individual bowler and her team. Playing Euchre was her card game of choice and she played regularly, but in her retirement, she also learned to play Bridge.
Dorathy was blessed with two grandchildren who she took great pride in. She loved cooking all of their favorites when they were with her. She also had several children that considered her their adopted Grandma. Dorathy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret, her four brothers Jonas and wife Ann, Reinhardt “Rein” and wife Edna, Norman and wife Adeleine, Raymond and wife Ruth. Her husband Ernie, the oldest son Art, Granddaughter Elizabeth “Beth” and a beloved daughter-in-law Yvonne, all preceded her in death as well. Loved ones that will miss her are her sons Ron, Rev. Dennis, her daughter Cynthia, and her Grandson John Buzoianu and his wife Ashley. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, and close friends whose life she has touched in her many years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Jan. 22, 2024 at 11:00a.m. at Cross Lutheran Church 5062 Texas Longhorn Dr. in Westport. Rev Joel Brandt will preside. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. A private burial will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison.
The family would like to thank Dr. Yee and his staff at Unity Point – Deforest, for the wonderful care and love they showed her. In addition, they would like to thank the staff at Sienna Crest for the special attention they doled on her and the residents that loved her even when she beat them in Bingo and her favorite Dominoes. In lieu of flowers, Dorathy’s wish was that any monetary memorials be given to Cross Lutheran in Westport WI.
