Madison-Donald Eugene Wells of Madison, WI. 79 years old, passed away at Meriter Hospital (Madison) Thursday January 15th, 2015. He was born in Peoria Illinois October 4, 1935. He is preceded in death by his father Eugene H. Wells (Springfield, IL) and his mother Eugenia Green (Pat, Madison, WI). Don moved to Madison at the age of 21 and made it his permanent home. He attended the University of Wisconsin as a Philosophy major and later in life in the MATC nursing program. In his early years he owned a gym, then The Brass Rail Bar, the Peppermint Lounge GoGo Club, Talk of the Town Newspaper, and Diamond Don's Club. He went on to become an evangelical Minister ordained by Southern Baptist Church. He then started the Upper Room, which was a street and prison ministry and a crisis intervention hotline.
Don was twice married and divorced. He is survived in life by 9 children. Vicki Balko (Tucson Arizona) Laura Pollick (Madison), Maria Disrud (Kip, Lodi), Zachary Wells (Nicole, Middleton), Marya Wells (Baltimore), Georgianna Wells (Madison), Noel Fernandez (Madison), Donald Wells II (Jamie Schultz, Madison), Dulcina Wells (Madison). Don has 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson Kaleb Wells. For information on a future Memorial service contact the family or Cress Funeral Home.
